The person behind DF Recovery

Meet David

DF Recovery is one person, one flatbed and a lot of miles around Louth, Meath and North Dublin. This is how it got here.

When you ring DF Recovery, David Faulkner answers. He runs the business from Drogheda, drives the truck and does the recovery himself.

It started with a target

DF Recovery did not start as a company with a fleet. It started with a figure: build enough regular recovery work to make around €500 a week. David bought the recovery setup and started working at it.

The beginning was not easy. Regular work does not appear because a truck exists. It had to be built one job at a time.

Keeping the head down

David already had friends in the motor trade, including friends with garages. That helped him understand what garages and their customers actually need from a recovery operator: turn up when you say you will, handle the car properly, and bring it to the right place. But DF Recovery still had to be earned through consistent work.

He kept taking the jobs that came in. He kept learning. He kept improving how the work was done. Relationships built up, and with them, repeat work.

One target became the next

Once the first weekly target became achievable, David set another. Then another. More regular work meant a better truck. A better truck meant more kinds of job DF could take on. Each step was paid for by the work before it.

  1. A weekly target and a first recovery setup.
  2. Regular work built through consistency and word of mouth.
  3. The truck upgraded, and the range of work widened.
  4. 04New targets set, and the business kept growing.

Investing back into DF

What DF earned went back into DF. The recovery equipment improved and the truck was upgraded so that more vehicles, in more conditions, could be handled safely and moved further.

What's next

David wants to keep growing DF Recovery. The next stage he is looking at is larger-capacity recovery equipment, including a truck able to carry more than one vehicle at a time, as demand for transport and multi-vehicle moves continues to grow. That is a plan, not a promise, and it will happen the same way everything else has: when the work justifies it.

Still David on the phone

DF Recovery may keep growing, but the part customers notice most has not changed. You ring a number and a person who knows the roads answers. You get a straight answer on whether he can get to you and roughly when. Your car is carried on a flatbed, not dragged, and it goes where you asked.

"At the centre of it is still the same thing. Helping people when they are stuck and getting their vehicle where it needs to go."
